Two companies have been appointed to provide investigation and surveillance services for WorkCover and its claims agents over the next three years.
Kingswood Investigation and Verifact have been appointed following a competitive tender process. Five companies currently are providing these services to WorkCover under contracts extended to 30 March 2006 to allow completion of the tender.
WorkCover CEO, Julia Davison, said the new contract reflected WorkCover's continuing push to provide effective, efficient and consistent administration of the workers compensation scheme.
"Our contracted investigators assist our agents in collecting information for the determination and ongoing management of claims, as well as investigating cases where there may be fraudulent behaviour," Ms Davison said. "Appointment of these two providers will simplify administration and ensure consistent standards in investigation procedures."
"We are absolutely determined to ensure we improve services and outcomes for those with legitimate claims, and that we identify fraud in all its forms, whether that involves employers, injured workers or medical and other providers," Ms Davison said.
"I encourage anyone with information on suspected fraud to contact us on 13 18 55. Such information can be provided confidentially."
The reasons Kingswood and Verifact were selected include:
• Demonstrated experience in delivering investigation and surveillance services.
• Demonstrated use of technology in the provision of investigation and surveillance services and file management.
• Desire to improve the standard of investigation and surveillance services.
• Rigorous quality assurance processes.
• Commitment to training and development of staff.
Kingswood is a well-established SA investigation firm and has been providing investigation and surveillance services for WorkCover and its agents since 1991. Queensland-based Verifact has extensive involvement in workers compensation-related investigation and surveillance in the eastern states. It will be establishing an office in Adelaide and will be employing South Australians to conduct investigation and surveillance work for WorkCover SA.
